The Emergency Medical Services Division of the Sni Valley Fire Protection District is on the forefront of the ever-changing emergency medical field. Sni Valley believes in providing the best possible medical care. We are constantly upgrading our medical guidelines, which are rules we must follow in the field and our equipment, medications and our training for our Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). Sni Valley has two Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances (Medical Units), one ALS Engine and one ALS staff vehicle. Our ALS Engine can provide the same treatment as our Medical Units except for transportation to a hospital. Thus, if both of our Medical Units are transporting patients, Sni Valley can still provide ALS treatment to the patrons of the District while a mutual aid ambulance is en route to transport our next patient. Since 1994, when Sni Valley started providing the Emergency Medical Service, we have continually updated equipment and supplies. In 1999 Sni Valley purchased two new Medical Units. In 2000 Sni Valley purchased four new heart monitors, two of which have the capability of AED (Automatic External Defibrillation). This means if there was no Paramedic on the Engine’s crew, the EMTs could provide life saving electrical shocks while the Paramedics on board the Medical Unit are en route. In 2005 we replaced the heart monitors with the Philips MRx and purchased a new 2005 Ford F-450 Type 1 ambulance. In 2001, Sni Valley added the latest innovative supplies
and medications. A few of the new medications include; Amiodarone
(this medication is
administered during Cardiac Arrest and certain cardiac arrhythmia’s),
Glucagon (is administered to patients with low blood sugar, when no
IV can be obtained), Labetalol (is administered for high blood pressure),
and Magnesium Sulfate (is administered for certain cardiac arrhythmia’s). |
